Climate negotiations in Bali are in crisis. Things were looking good till now: near-consensus on a delicate deal, including 2020 targets for rich countries, in return for which China and the developing world would do their part over time. IPCC scientists have said such targets are needed to prevent catastrophe. But Japan, the US and Canada are banding together to wreck the deal, and the rest of the world is starting to waver…
We can’t let three stubborn governments throw away the planet’s future. We have until the end of Friday to do everything we can. The Canadian government are very, very naughty. The US & Japan have always been since Kyoto. Three countries holding up the rest; can’t we threaten them with a reformed Australian drought affected farmer?

This stand-off is costing us dearly.
I think I’ve become immune to the disease that is ‘bureaucratic incompetence’ which seems to go with global CC conferences such as that in Bali. And it has probably happened without me really realising it.
We need governments to commit to e-policy & funding but, it seems to me that there’s so much happening on the ground already from citizen/business/NGO/IGO involvement & action that, in a way, governments may find themselves playing catch-up with their voters.
Bali, nice day beside the seaside but, I’d rather be in London where it’s really happening.
