I would like to let people know that the power station is not going to be built on the old site as people are led to believe but on the site of the old coal dumps which would put it more central to the banks proposal and about 400 feet to the west however I agree with everything else that pete smith has said .The banks group are still wanting to build under a growth point but I still think the two ventures would overlap

Thomas, I believe there's a big difference between existing locals still wanting to live there, with substantial financial and emotional investments in the area, and enticing newcomers in.
As I recall, the power station was an integral part of the plan, already factored in, so I think it unlikely the eco-town proposal was rejected on the grounds you state.

After reading pete smiths article I have decided to write again as for who would like to live next to the north sea my family as we own one of the houses closest to the beach and the rest of the cambois residents would also I believe the real reason cambois was rejected for the eco towns scheme is that the land is needed for the power station and its facilities this is what I call government corruption

The Cambois proposal, from Banks Developments, is interesting. "The proposed site...is comprised of [sic] brownfield land on which heavy industry was previously located, low grade agricultural land and coastal dunes. It is bounded by tidal river estuaries to the north and south, and adjoins the North Sea coast to the east."
It's not all brownfield land. Defining agricultural land as "low grade" is a subjective call, depending on how eager you are to build on it. Incorporating dunes, an increasingly rare habitat, is potentially controversial, despite their "retention and enhancement". And who in their right mind would want to live so close to the North Sea in these days of global warming and sea level rise?
"A major element of the eco-town could be the proposal by RWE NPower to construct a new coal fired power station in the south of the area, although it is not dependent on the power station going ahead."
A coal power station? Very eco!
